June 27, 2026
After identifying a number of issues and solutions related to the ongoing mental health crisis on June 6th (here you can find the report), we were excited to meet for our follow-up event on June 27th.
We welcomed a few new faces at a new venue at 360 Dufferin Street. They shared new perspectives and insights, and we came up with a bunch of interesting ideas, relevant to different perspectives:
Individual
- •Educating people not to rely on AI for personal matters
- •Establishing a personal "pre-therapy" framework for mental well-being, combining aspects such as friendships, sports/physical exercise, nature, and meditation
Community/Societal
- •Bringing together older and younger generations to learn from each other and connect → connecting opposites
- •Offering training on mindfulness and related practices
- •Leveraging technology to overcome barriers to connection, e.g. through language-translation apps
Education
- •Training teachers on social/interpersonal skills
- •Improving structure/curriculum with project-based learning, removing rigid grading, and rethinking how students are tested
- •Integrating mental well-being into the curriculum, either as a standalone subject or as part of existing ones
- •Making education more interesting and relatable by inviting guest speakers and experts, and involving parents
As a next step, we are gathering all the insights from these two events and crystallizing the key solutions into a short document, which we can send as a proposal to our local members of parliament. Follow our newsletter to stay up to date with this step - we are going to collect signatures from whoever wants to be part of addressing the mental well-being of our neighbourhood and city!
